Tei Shi announces her new album and shares bold new single “Drop Dead,” blending pop, defiance, and emotional growth.
Canadian-Colombian pop visionary Tei Shi is back with a defiant new single, “Drop Dead,” previewing her forthcoming LP Make believe I make believe, arriving this summer via The Orchard. Known for her textured vocals and genre-blending style, Tei Shi once again invites listeners into a vulnerable yet empowered space, turning personal betrayals into anthem-worthy pop.
Produced with longtime collaborators Noah Beresin and Tommy English during a retreat on Vancouver Island, “Drop Dead” merges nostalgic pop textures with sharp lyrics and a bold message of resilience. The accompanying video pairs fragmented visuals of Tei Shi’s face—eyes, hands, mouth—in a stylized collage that reflects self-reclamation.
Tei Shi shares, “Drop Dead is a song to the haters! We all have them, and sometimes the call is coming from inside the house as they say…I channeled some personal betrayals into this one, and it also came from revisiting some of my early relationship dynamics where I felt I had to dim my shine for someone else. I wanted the song to be an unabashed celebration of that shine we all carry, that pride and confidence within us that is at times stronger than others, and kind of poke fun at the idea of jealousy.”
The track follows her recent single “Best Be Leaving” and a collaborative merch drop with LA-based brand Everybody.World. Both releases point toward a larger creative evolution as Tei Shi prepares to release her fourth studio project.
This is Tei Shi’s first album crafted without external interference—no label pressure, no managerial oversight—resulting in a body of work that is sonically free and emotionally unfiltered. With “Drop Dead,” she reclaims not just her voice, but the power behind it.
