Ruger’s new album BlownBoy Ru blends Afrobeats, dancehall, amapiano, and R&B in a genre-fluid project.

MOBO-nominated Nigerian sensation Ruger has released his second studio album BlownBoy Ru, a confident and genre-blending follow-up to 2023’s Ru The World. The project arrives via Promised Land Records and features appearances from Tiwa Savage, Kranium, Zlatan, and Ugandan singer Haile.

Ruger’s sonic evolution is on full display across the album’s diverse soundscape, fusing Afrobeats, R&B, pop, amapiano, and dancehall. “I never want to be boxed into one sound,” Ruger says. “On this album, I just let myself be free.”

Tracks like “Toma Toma” with Tiwa Savage have already racked up over 30 million global streams, while “Jay Jay,” a tribute to Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha, went viral on TikTok and achieved 234K day-one streams on Spotify. “DuDu” featuring Jamaican dancehall star Kranium leads the project’s release alongside an official video.

“With Ru The World, I was proving a point,” Ruger shares. “But on this album, I feel more comfortable in my artistry. My songwriting has evolved; with more intentional lyrics, delivery, and emotions I’m passing across.”

Other standouts include the amapiano-soul crossover “Runaway” featuring Haile, and the trap-laced “Give Away” with Zlatan.

Following the viral COLORS performance of “Toro” and a 2025 MOBO nomination, Ruger was recently named a Spotify Global Artist To Watch for 2025. A massive US and European tour begins this spring, leading to a UK return this September with headline shows in London, Manchester, and Birmingham.
