Rainbow Kitten Surprise release new single “Dang” with a Nashville-set video inspired by film classics.
Rainbow Kitten Surprise return with a new track made for the summer, titled “Dang”, now available via Atlantic Records. Known for their genre-defying style and emotionally rich songwriting, the band brings forward a release that blends nostalgia with high-energy storytelling—both musically and visually.
“Dang” unfolds with steady guitar lines, building toward a soaring chorus that frontwoman Ela Melo delivers with conviction. The track radiates the kind of open-road energy that begs to be turned up on a long summer drive with friends.
Accompanying the single is a cinematic music video, which follows a couple’s adventurous journey across Nashville in search of a rooftop concert. Inspired by the 2008 cult favorite Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, the video provides a modern twist, reimagined through a queer lens and set in East Nashville. Along the way, the couple experiences both lighthearted and heartfelt moments—including a stop for karaoke.
Reflecting on the track, the band said:
“When we wrote this, we envisioned tracking it with Jay Joyce and it’s pretty legendary that actually came to be. ‘Dang’ is loosely based on a performance that drew inspiration from ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.’ The song is both an ode to some earlier RKS sounds and also a letter to the fans who have supported us through many iterations of the band. For your enjoyment, here’s ‘Dang.’”
With “Dang,” Rainbow Kitten Surprise continue to evolve their sound while honoring the essence that’s long connected them with their audience. Both the single and its visual companion highlight the band’s dedication to storytelling, soundscapes, and connection.
