Ookay returns with ‘Proxima Nova‘ | 4-track EP blends trap, UKG, and bass in explosive festival style

Ookay returns with Proxima Nova, a dynamic four-track EP out now via Dim Mak. Showcasing his evolution while honoring his roots, the project is a bold step forward for the producer/DJ and a reminder of his influence in the dance music space. With genre-spanning energy and thoughtful production, Proxima Nova offers a sharp, future-forward sound that’s built for both clubs and festivals alike.

Explaining the meaning behind the project, Ookay shares: “Proxima translates to “next” while Nova translates to “new”; a star showing a sudden large increase in brightness. I wanted this music to show what’s next and give brightness to my sound. It also pays homage to a font that has been used throughout the years and has established itself while still being reinvented which is a reflection of my career. Bringing a rebirth of everything that has established Ookay up till this point.”

Leading the EP is the electrifying opener “Move Ya Body”—a hybrid bass anthem that mixes trap and dancehall influences with a festival-ready punch. Following that is “Speakers Knockin,” a bouncy UKG/Bass House track that channels underground club energy and retro keyboard stabs.

“All I Ever Wanted” brings classic Festival Trap back into the spotlight with soulful vocals and Jersey Club percussion driving its high-energy drops. The EP’s closer, “Lose Control,” contrasts delicate vocals with a deep bassline, rounding out the project with intricate sound design and bold dynamics.

With Proxima Nova, Ookay reasserts his role as an innovator within electronic music—merging styles, pushing boundaries, and spotlighting a renewed vision of his sonic identity.
