Listen to Olly Alexander’s latest single, “When We Kiss,” a powerful love song from his album Polari, out February 7.
Olly Alexander starts 2025 with a bang, releasing the emotionally charged single “When We Kiss.” The track, taken from his forthcoming album Polari (out February 7), is a love song layered with themes of heartbreak, tension, and desire. Paired with a striking music video directed by Colin Solal Cardo, the song takes listeners on a raw and rapturous journey.
In Olly’s own words, “‘When We Kiss’ is an epic love song about a difficult moment in a relationship, when you don’t know whether you should break up or if you should stay together forever. I wanted this song to reflect those conflicted feelings, all the pain and ecstasy of loving someone. I believe heartbreak and synthesizers are made for each other, and I had the best time making this with my Polari partner Danny L Harle. Our aim was to take the listener on a rapturous journey of heartfelt emotion, from anguish to euphoria and back again.”
The single follows three previously released tracks from Polari, each offering a unique glimpse into the album’s retro-inspired yet modern sound. “Cupid’s Bow” introduced fans to the record’s emotive core, while the high-energy title track “Polari” earned praise from Queerty for its infectious ’80s vibe. Closing out 2024, “Archangel” was named an “Editor’s Pick” by Billboard, who highlighted its delicate melodies and synth-driven charm.
With “When We Kiss,” Olly continues to solidify his place as a pop innovator. The single is available now, offering fans a taste of what’s to come with Polari.
