Obongjayar previews “PARADISE NOW” with “Jellyfish,” out now. His second album arrives May 30 via September Recordings.
Genre-defying artist Obongjayar returns with “Jellyfish,” the latest single from his upcoming album PARADISE NOW, due May 30 on September Recordings. The track, produced with Carlos O’Connell (Fontaines D.C.) and Kwes Darko (Denzel Curry, Pa Salieu), marks a fierce sonic shift, channeling raw frustration through a synth-punk lens.
Obongjayar fuses elements of drum and bass with textured references to his Nigerian heritage, delivering what The Observer’s Tara Joshi calls “a scathing song about spineless British politicians.”
“Seeing how governments move, people in power, corporations – [for] whatever monetary reasons you sell yourself,” Obongjayar explained in a recent interview.
“Jellyfish” follows recent releases “Sweet Danger,” “Not in Surrender,” and “Just My Luck,” building momentum toward an album filled with personal and political reflection. Produced in London and LA with Kwes Darko, Yeti Beats (Doja Cat), and Beach Noise (Kendrick Lamar, Bakar), PARADISE NOW blends electro-pop, strings, and emotional storytelling, exploring everything from loneliness to self-acceptance.
The album features one guest only: Obongjayar’s longtime collaborator and friend Little Simz, with whom he recently teamed up on her single “Flood.”
Obongjayar will take his high-energy live show to the U.S. starting July 24, including a stop at Newport Folk Festival. His UK/EU tour begins in Berlin on November 14, wrapping in London at the O2 Kentish Town Forum, his largest headlining show to date.
