Nell Mescal drops “Carried Away,” her first release since signing to Atlantic Records.

Nell Mescal makes a striking return with her latest single “Carried Away,” out now alongside an official music video. The track is the first to emerge from her recent Brooklyn studio sessions, offering a glimpse into the next phase of her musical journey—and her first release under Atlantic Records.

Produced by Philip Weinrobe, known for his work with Adrianne Lenker and Billie Marten, “Carried Away” explores the emotional tension within a relationship lacking in clarity. “It’s a song about asking for reassurance from someone you’re in a tumultuous relationship with and being disappointed by their answer,” says Nell. “Instead of saying they love you back, they say they just got carried away.”

The recording process brought a fresh, collaborative energy. Reflecting on working with Weinrobe, Nell shared: “The demo of this vs the finished product is so different and it was so exciting to create in the studio. I played it with just me and a guitar for the band and after playing it once everyone joined in and it immediately became clear the direction we were headed in. Philip had some amazing ideas. We thought about doing a lyric change in the second pre chorus and he had the entire band play the same section over and over again while I wrote as quickly as possible…and it really elevated the song.”

Following a sold-out acoustic tour, Nell has had a busy live schedule. Recent highlights include performances at Somerset House’s “Summer Session” and the TRNSMT Festival, with additional appearances lined up for Newcastle’s Come Together Festival, Reading & Leeds, and Sheffield’s Rock N Roll Circus. A larger UK tour is also planned for late 2025.
