Philip Singer, professionally known as METAPHYSICAL, is a hip-hop artist and entrepreneur whose life reads like a movie script—only his is very real. From homelessness to a coma, from addiction to military service, and now an emerging voice in the indie rap scene, his comeback is more than music—it’s a movement.
Born in Pasadena and raised in California’s Central Valley, Singer’s early life was turbulent. After dropping out of multiple high schools, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. But his biggest challenge came in 1994, when a car accident left him in a coma for almost a month. “I had to relearn how to walk and talk,” he says. “Doctors warned me of the aftermath… but I’m still here.”
After facing years of addiction and epilepsy, he sought medical treatment, found faith, and reignited his creative drive. Now based in Hollywood, METAPHYSICAL’s resilience shines through his music and entrepreneurial ventures.
Today, he’s thriving. His beverage company, H I G H Ice Tea, is stocked at Kroger, and he runs Fred Sanford Music Publishing Group. “It’s delicious – just shake before you serve,” he laughs. He blends old-school soul and lyrical storytelling with real-life grit, performing in memory of his late sister and on behalf of those still struggling.
His comeback is proof: pain can fuel purpose.
