Mariah Carey revisits the iconic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” in Vevo’s Footnotes, celebrating 30 years of the holiday classic.

Mariah Carey is celebrating the 30th anniversary of her iconic holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” with Vevo in a special Footnotes episode. This behind-the-scenes feature dives into the making of the “Make My Wish Come True Edition” video, providing fans with an exclusive look at the artistry behind the timeless Christmas song.

Directed by Joseph Kahn, the video pays homage to Busby Berkeley’s glamorous musical sequences from Hollywood’s golden age. Mariah Carey shares candid reflections about the challenges of blending into the elaborate choreography, noting that dancing isn’t her forte. The intricate Busby Berkeley-inspired segment, with dancers moving on platforms behind Carey, required hours of filming and multiple camera passes to achieve its dazzling effect.

The festive video also features heartwarming cameos. Mykal-Michelle Harris portrays a young Mariah, which Carey described as a meaningful nod to her childhood love of Christmas: “She represents little me and all the kids who love Christmas!” Carey’s twins, Monroe and Moroccan, bring family cheer with their joyful dancing, while her dog, Cha Cha, adds a touch of nostalgia by continuing her tradition of featuring pets in her holiday videos. Director Joseph Kahn’s daughter, Josie, also appears as an angelic girl popping out of a present.

As the all-time best-selling Christmas single by a female artist, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has become a holiday staple. With over 1.5 billion views on its official videos and a Billboard Hot 100 #1 streak for the past five years, the song continues to spread holiday cheer worldwide.
