Lord Huron and Kristen Stewart team up for “Who Laughs Last?” a cinematic new single blending spoken word and noir influences.
Lord Huron has returned with their first original release in two years, “Who Laughs Last?” Out now via Mercury Records, the single features Academy Award-nominated actress Kristen Stewart in her debut as a recording artist. The track is a thrilling blend of spoken word, cinematic storytelling, and the band’s signature sonic craftsmanship.
The song begins with a moody, palm-muted guitar riff and an insistent beat, setting the tone for a haunting journey. Kristen Stewart’s spoken word performance draws listeners into an ominous narrative, describing an oncoming storm: “It made me feel something I never felt before…something between awestruck and horrified.” As the momentum builds, Ben Schneider’s vocals deliver the striking hook: “You don’t remember what I said, but you’ll remember what I did.”
The accompanying music video, starring Stewart, brings the song’s Lynchian noir vision to life. With its surreal atmosphere and evocative imagery, the video captures the haunting essence of the track.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Schneider said: “I’d been a fan of Kristen’s since seeing her work with Olivier Assayas. When I wrote this song, I kept hearing her voice and decided to reach out, even though I thought it was a long shot. She immediately understood what I was going for and brought incredible ideas to the project. It was a dream collaboration.”
“Who Laughs Last?” is a powerful reintroduction to Lord Huron’s world, teasing what’s to come from the band’s next chapter.
