Lola Young’s new track “One Thing” blends sharp vocals, humor, and sensuality. Watch the bold Dave Meyers-directed video now.
British singer-songwriter Lola Young returns with her new single, “One Thing”—a bold, rhythmically hypnotic track that fuses spoken word sensibilities with smooth R&B influences. Carried by breezy guitar licks and an infectious groove, “One Thing” puts Lola’s unmistakable vocal tone and lyrical sharpness on full display.
Speaking about the meaning behind the track, Lola explains, “It’s a song that on first listen sounds like I’m talking about one thing. Sex. Which I am, of course. However sex in itself is never about one thing.”
The release is accompanied by a creatively irreverent music video directed by the renowned Dave Meyers. With humor and stylized scenes, the visual flips expected narratives—highlighting Lola in scenarios like a girls-only classroom, a boxing match against exes, and even locking lips with herself.
“I wanted to make a song and music video,” Lola adds, “That is thought-provoking and highlights sex being both a fun and light thing, not always meaningful, as well as showing how gender roles can be reversed.”
The new track ushers in a fresh chapter for Lola following her breakthrough year. Her chart-topping 2024 hit “Messy” went platinum and reached #1 in the UK, making her the youngest British female solo artist to achieve that since Dua Lipa.
With recent collaborations with Tyler, The Creator and Lil Yachty, and major upcoming performances including Glastonbury, Coachella, and opening for Billie Eilish, “One Thing” cements Lola Young’s place as a defining voice in modern music.
