Lexa Gates returns with a captivating new release, sharing her single “Latency” via Capitol Records. Produced by Grammy-winning Jasper Harris (Baby Keem, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Nas X) and Aaron Shadrow (Doja Cat, Yeat), the track delivers moody piano loops, atmospheric textures, and lyrics that cut straight through emotional static.
Built on a sample from Hamilton Bohannon’s “Tell Me You’ll Wait,” “Latency” showcases Lexa’s trademark blend of sultry vocals and lyrical precision. She examines the ache of emotional distance in a would-be relationship, singing, “I got ideas of you, making moves on me, what’s with the latency?” Her words land with subtle power, capturing the in-between space where attraction meets hesitation.
Lexa describes the track as “a sexy fantasy of a love left on delay. Waiting for a text back, or a move to be made.” Reflecting on the inspiration, she adds, “I got in the studio late night with the GOATS. From New York to LA. Being around all these rich older men sparked a curiosity in me. It’s a tale as old as time.”
