Kassidy’s “Useless” explores the emotional toll of one-sided relationships. Out now via Universal Music Canada.
Canadian pop-soul singer Kassidy releases his newest single “Useless” via Universal Music Canada, offering listeners a powerful reflection on emotional neglect. Inspired by friendships that faded over time, “Useless” resonates with anyone who has ever felt sidelined or unreciprocated in their relationships.
“‘Useless’ was inspired by friends who don’t reach out anymore or won’t make the time or effort the way they used to,” Kassidy says. “It’s about that feeling of always being the one to reach out.”
As the songwriting developed, the song’s meaning broadened beyond platonic connections.
“Somewhere along the way in the writing process, I realized that this concept could also be fitting for a romantic relationship where one of the partners is feeling let down or used.”
An official music video depicting Kassidy in the middle of a complicated relationship is set to premiere May 30, offering a visual counterpart to the track’s emotional intensity. To accompany the release, a live performance video—featuring acclaimed Black Pumas keyboardist JaRon Marshall—will be shared on Kassidy’s social platforms. This stripped-down version puts the focus on his stunning vocals and lyrical vulnerability.
With more music, live shows, and collaborative projects in the works, 2025 promises to be a defining year in Kassidy’s career as he continues to evolve as one of pop-soul’s most promising new voices.
