Kalsey Kulyk releases “Western Wind” and a tribute to The Judds via Universal Music Canada.
Canadian country artist Kalsey Kulyk releases her latest single, “Western Wind,” a heartfelt track exploring emotional boundaries, via Universal Music Canada. Accompanying the song is a nostalgic reinterpretation of The Judds’ beloved hit “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout The Good Old Days).”
“Western Wind” reflects on the internal tug-of-war between desire and self-protection. “‘Western Wind’ was a song that I started myself and had to walk away from because I wanted to give it my all,” Kulyk says. “So a month later I was in Nashville in the writers room with Patricia Conroy and Dave Thomson and I threw this song out there and they loved it.”
As a companion piece, Kulyk offers her rendition of “Grandpa,” a childhood favorite that further underlines her connection to country music’s golden era. “‘Grandpa’ was a song I used to sing all the time as a little girl,” she recalls. “Every time I hear this song or it pops in my head it feels like a warm blanket reminding me of my childhood.”
This cover follows earlier reinterpretations of “Cowboy Take Me Away” and “I May Hate Myself In The Morning,” positioning Kulyk as a bridge between country’s past and present.
Later this year, Kulyk will open for Wynonna Judd at the Energetic County Fair in Fort St. John, continuing her steady ascent in the Canadian music landscape. Known for her vibrant voice and evocative songwriting, Kulyk is building a lasting presence in the genre.
