Global icon J Balvin returns with a deeply reflective track, “Rio,” his first release of 2025. Known for pushing boundaries in reggaeton, Balvin steps into uncharted territory with this personal and introspective single, which celebrates life, self-awareness, and spiritual healing.
“Rio” combines a playful reggaeton beat with haunting basslines, creating a soundscape that balances vulnerability and confidence. Produced by Mazzarri and ODDLIQUOR, the track reveals Balvin’s appreciation for life’s challenges. Opening with the line, “Hoy le doy las gracias al cielo / por las veces que me equivoque” (Today I give thanks to the heavens / For the times I messed up), Balvin reflects on his personal growth and the lessons that have shaped him. The chorus reinforces this theme of self-awareness, asking, “Pa qué buscar en la calle / Lo que abunda en mi casa” (Why hit the streets to look for / What is plentiful in my house).
The song is accompanied by a visually striking music video that offers an intimate glimpse into Balvin’s private life. Featuring personal footage shot by the artist himself, the video highlights his journey of self-discovery and gratitude.
“Rio” coincides with Balvin’s recognition at the 2025 Premio Lo Nuestro Awards, where he is nominated for Urban Collaboration of the Year (“Polvo de tu Vida” with Chencho Corleone) and Urban Album of the Year (Rayo). The awards will air live on February 20 via Univision.
With “Rio,” J Balvin not only evolves as an artist but also invites fans to join him on a journey of personal and spiritual growth.
