Folk B*tch Trio release “Cathode Ray,” the second single from their debut album “Now Would Be A Good Time”, out July 25.
Rising Naarm/Melbourne group Folk B*tch Trio have unveiled the video and single “Cathode Ray,” alongside the announcement of their debut album Now Would Be A Good Time, set for release July 25 via Jagjaguwar.
Following the critical success of “The Actor,” “Cathode Ray” offers a haunting, melancholic reflection on bodily anxiety and the desire for transformation.
“It expresses a feeling of being trapped in myself, and wanting to break out of that so violently that I’m literally talking about opening up a body viscerally,” shares Sinclair. “It’s about frustration, and knowing there’s no cheap thrill that’s going to fix that.”
The track builds on Folk B*tch Trio’s signature vocal harmonies and minimalist instrumentation, while drawing from influences like Americana, gothic rock, and clear-eyed balladry. Their debut LP was recorded to tape in Auckland during winter 2024 with producer Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins, Marlon Williams).
Each member brings a distinct perspective: Pilkington grew up with musician parents and gravitated toward roots music; Peverelle is drawn to the tactile and handmade, and Sinclair blends dark theatricality with a love of opera and punk. Their friendship and musical chemistry stretch back to high school.
With prior tours across Australia, Europe, and the U.S., and support slots for King Gizzard, Julia Jacklin, and Alex G, the trio are gaining international momentum.
Folk B*tch Trio will cap off their global touring year with a headline run in Australia and New Zealand this September.
