Congolese music icon Fally Ipupa, popularly known as the Prince of Rumba, is set to release his latest album, ‘XX’, on April 17 under Warner Music France. This album not only celebrates his illustrious career but also marks a significant milestone – two decades of contributions to the African music scene.
The album is led by the priority track ‘Jam,’ featuring renowned afrobeats artist Wizkid, alongside the previously released single ‘Cinéma.’ ‘XX’ is a collaborative masterpiece, showcasing a diverse array of international artists, including the GRAMMY Award-winning Angélique Kidjo, rising Haitian vocalist Joé Dwèt Filé, amapiano innovator DJ Maphorisa from South Africa, the São Toméan duo Calema, and French rap artist KeBlack. Fally has also enlisted prominent producers such as Trésor Riziki, Dany Synthé, and Seysey, who contribute to the album’s vibrant sound palette.
Fally Ipupa’s new work encapsulates a blend of global pop influences and traditional Congolese sounds, particularly the guitar-driven and emotionally rich essence of Congolese rumba that defines his artistry. ‘XX’ aims to elevate this heritage while incorporating contemporary pop, R&B, and afrobeats elements, thus paving the way for a modern yet culturally resonant sound.
