EMMMA channels heartbreak and self-realization in her dramatic new alt-pop single “Wednesday’s Child.”
EMMMA returns with one of her most emotionally potent tracks yet, unveiling “Wednesday’s Child” as her latest single. Known for her introspective songwriting and cinematic alt-pop production, the rising artist continues her journey of self-discovery and healing through music.
Opening with eerie synths and a minimal beat, “Wednesday’s Child” steadily builds to a thunderous crescendo of layered drums and soaring vocals. The lyrics reflect the struggle of pouring one’s heart into a one-sided relationship and finally finding release through acceptance and self-awareness. As the track reaches its dramatic peak, EMMMA sings: “So caught up in your own storm you’re creating / So big you can’t even see that it’s raining / All of the heartache is from your own making.”
The title was inspired by a sticker she found in a pub bathroom, which referenced the saying “Wednesday’s child is full of woe.” Upon learning her ex was born on a Wednesday, the phrase hit home. Later, while driving through Malibu, EMMMA played back the song and broke down. “I’ve never cried to a song I’ve written before, but I did then,” she explains. “It still hits me in that way each time, I think that’s what makes it so special.”
Co-written with Jack Dean and Eden Rain and produced by Dean alongside Ben Wylen, “Wednesday’s Child” follows the recent single “Cut The Breaks.” Both tracks offer a glimpse into her upcoming sophomore EP, which continues the personal storytelling found in her acclaimed debut, Secondary Character.
Having recently toured Asia with Sasha Alex Sloan, EMMMA will make her UK debut in May, opening for JC Stewart.
