Alt-pop star Ariana and the Rose returns with her first release in three years, previewing her upcoming album.
Ariana and the Rose makes a striking return with her new single, “I Just Came To Say Goodbye.” Released after a three-year musical hiatus, the track serves as the first preview of her upcoming album The Breakup Variety Hour, set for release this fall.
The Brooklyn-based singer, known for blending the theatrical with the heartfelt, co-wrote the single with HARLOE (credits: Kelly Clarkson, Charli XCX). Starting with a piano-led introduction, the song builds into a swirling production of shimmering synths, layered percussion, and gospel-inspired vocal flourishes.
“‘I Just Came to Say Goodbye’ is the introduction to new album The Breakup Variety Hour. The show is the album, the album is the one-woman show. 6 steps to get you through a breakup through song, comedy and a touch of chaos,” Ariana shared. “This song is where we begin, at the moment we decide to leave…”
This emotionally potent track is a dramatic farewell and a launchpad into a larger narrative. The new project, inspired by her recent national tour, promises a blend of storytelling, humor, and catharsis.
The single also arrives ahead of her summer residency at NYC’s Club Cumming, with performances scheduled for July 16, August 13, and September 11.
Her previous album Lonely Hearts Club (2022) was praised by Billboard and People for its disco-infused vulnerability. Ariana’s pandemic-era “piano chat” videos also amassed millions of views, offering unfiltered reflections on love and modern dating.
“I Just Came To Say Goodbye” marks the beginning of a deeply personal new chapter for the artist—emotional, theatrical, and unapologetically her.
