Anupam Shobhakar returns with Liquid Reality, an album that reimagines the boundaries of genre through fearless fusion. Building on his innovative 2023 release Raga Jhinjhoti on Fretless Guitar, the virtuoso guitarist, composer, and sarodist continues to blur musical lines.
Rooted in the Senia Maihar Gharana and trained by Indian music greats such as Aashish Khan, Anupam has forged an international career defined by creativity. Residing now in New York, he developed a one-of-a-kind double-neck guitar—fretted and fretless—to navigate both the intricate tonalities of Indian classical music and the rich harmonies of jazz and rock.
Liquid Reality is an expansive journey through musical cultures, featuring contributions from artists including Utsav Lal, Santiago Liebson, Swami Selva Ganesh, Ona Kirei, Ben Parag, and others. The album shifts from meditative to electrifying across tracks such as “Formless,” a guitar and kanjeera duet, “Anjaneya,” a tribute to Hanuman steeped in rock energy, and “La Danse de Bonheur,” which honors the legacy of Shakti and John McLaughlin.
