Ally Evenson drops “The Line,” a playful D&B-meets-country track with a surreal body horror-inspired music video.

Acclaimed indie-alternative singer-songwriter Ally Evenson returns with her newest single, “The Line,” now available via Assemble Sound/Atlantic Records. Premiering on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music 1 show, the track marks a bold shift in Evenson’s sonic storytelling.

Produced with longtime collaborator nydge, “The Line” fuses an unexpected mix of country and drum & bass elements into a mischievously catchy creation. While originally conceived in jest, the song took on a life of its own. “‘The Line’ is a song originally made as a joke,” says Evenson. “After the song was made, we realized it was actually extremely rad and decided it was LESS of a joke but still sort of a joke. Country D&B song about intrusive thoughts!”

Accompanying the single is a surreal official music video inspired by body horror aesthetics. Directed with striking attention to visual metaphor, the video reflects a deeper narrative Evenson ties back to her debut album. “The video, however, is almost a prequel to my debut album, BLUE SUPER LOVE,” she shares. “I love body horror. I love acting. I made a joke about eating the blue hat I wear all the time and thought, what a way to switch eras. By vomiting up the hat…”

From her early days growing up near Port Huron, MI, to her artistic development at Detroit’s music scene, Evenson has carved a path defined by emotional honesty and sonic experimentation. With prior releases like In My Dreams, You Laugh at Me and her breakthrough EP Not So Pretty, she’s earned critical acclaim from outlets like Pitchfork and Pigeons & Planes, and now “The Line” sets the tone for a bold new chapter.
