Michael Aldag unveils ‘Crying in the Club‘, a synth pop EP of heartbreak, nostalgia and sharp 80s inspired storytelling.

Michael Aldag returns with his new EP, ‘Crying in the Club’, a five-track project that transforms heartbreak into shimmering synth pop catharsis. Co written and produced alongside Swedish songwriter and producer Robin Stjernberg, the record captures the rawness of love, loss and fleeting connections through 80s inspired sound design and vivid lyrical storytelling. Each song pulses with emotion, drawn from a breakup that continues to linger, making the listening experience both cinematic and personal.

The EP’s lead single, ‘3minutes’, stands as a centerpiece of Aldag’s storytelling and sonic evolution. It begins with twinkling synths and a muted bassline, setting the tone for a track that balances minimal intimacy with layered, retro textures. Aldag’s vocal remains upfront, allowing his words to flow with sincerity and vulnerability. The verses trace tension and longing, as he sings, “I know that you’re over me / But one chance is all I need / To heal you, make it right / I search you through the night / I find you in the chaos and the lights.”

The chorus expands into driving percussion and lush, atmospheric synths, evoking a nostalgic, 80s club energy: “Your eyes lock mine in a hopeless place / I feel our minds entwined through time and space / But the drums don’t stop and you walk away / I only missed you by 3 minutes, babe.” As the bridge unfolds, Aldag’s repetition of “crying in the club” transforms from full texture to a chopped, percussive rhythm, closing on an isolated vocal line that heightens the emotional impact.

Speaking on the single, Aldag explains, “3minutes is a reference to the length of a song that prevented me from reaching my ex-girlfriend on a club dance floor. Nothing else.” The anecdote distills the EP’s themes of immediacy, missed timing and emotional honesty. Alongside ‘3minutes’, tracks like ‘Happy’ and ‘Saturday’ continue exploring heartbreak and reflection, making ‘Crying in the Club’ a cohesive emotional statement.

Aldag frames the release with trademark humor and sincerity, stating, “’Crying in the Club’ is an EP that will likely change the course of music history forever. I am excited to see the seismic reaction to yet another 5 track project about someone’s ex-girlfriend. People have called it ‘visionary’, others have called it ‘profound and brave’, I just call it ‘mine’.”

With ‘Crying in the Club’, Michael Aldag captures a universal story of heartbreak through glossy production and emotional precision. The result is a project that feels timeless, immediate and unmistakably his.
