Gordi drops ‘Like Plasticine’, a 12 song album born of change, with ‘Your Consolation Prize’ and bold, intimate storytelling.

Australian indie pop singer, songwriter and producer Gordi shares ‘Like Plasticine’, an exquisite third album that arrives with warmth, courage, and clear purpose. Many moons in the making, the collection lands after a whirlwind stretch that took her across Europe with Foster The People, into major US festival moments at Lollapalooza and Hinterland Festival, and onto US television with appearances on The Kelly Clarkson Show and CBS Mornings, plus a KEXP session. Now back in Australia briefly before more touring, she welcomes the record into the world with deep gratitude and intent.

“Today, as I finally set this album free, I am reminded of its beginning. Deep in the middle of the pandemic I began writing the songs that would make up ‘Like Plasticine’, wondering what the purpose of music was at all. I tried to stop thinking and just feel. When I look back on that time now, sitting in Phoenix Central Park surrounded by things I could make music with, I see ‘Like Plasticine’ arriving as though it was a fire hydrant erupting. Everything we try to contain comes out one way or another. So when you listen to this record, un-contain yourself, stop thinking, and just feel. – Gordi”

The album’s 12 songs capture the last few transformative years of her life. Gordi reflects on coming out and adjusting the vision of her future, and she draws on her experience working as a doctor during the pandemic. That perspective fuels songs that explore beauty, heartbreak, and the finite nature of human experience with tenderness and strength.

Alongside the release, Gordi shares a video for ‘Your Consolation Prize’. Co produced by Brad Cook, known for work with Snail Mail, Jensen McRae, and Bon Iver, the track channels synth pop sparkle with drum machines and a soft choir of voices. It considers how, despite progress and closeness since coming out, young queer people may still find qualifiers placed on their lives.

Across the tracklist, listeners will find ‘Peripheral Lover’, ‘Cutting Room Floor’, ‘PVC Divide’ featuring Anaïs Mitchell, and ‘Lunch At Dune’. ‘Like Plasticine’ glows with openness and craft, offering songs to feel through, and to keep close.

Most recently, ‘Corset’ set the mood for the album’s arrival, a cinematic slow burn produced by longtime collaborator Kadis. Threaded with metaphor and tension, the single explores a relationship that binds tight yet never settles, and its visual, directed by Justin Moser with iyla as creative director, brings the ‘Weeping Angel’ artwork to life with a haunting, surreal touch.
