EMMMA shares “Burning Bridges,” a synth-driven exploration of letting go, growth, and healing.
Alt-pop artist EMMMA takes a bold step toward her second EP with the release of her new single, “Burning Bridges.” Blending introspective lyrics with dynamic electro-pop production, the track reinforces her standing among artists like Chappell Roan, Holly Humberstone, and Phoebe Bridgers.
“Burning Bridges” opens with moody, arpeggiated synths, creating a dramatic contrast to EMMMA’s soft, melodic vocals. The chorus then surges forward with an energetic release, described as reflecting “the high of running away.” But beneath the surface lies a deeper message. As EMMMA explains: “I’ve definitely been convinced that everything going wrong in my life is my fault… But over the years, I’ve come to realise that it’s actually OK to burn a few bridges – it can be a way of healing.”
Co-written with producer and longtime collaborator Ben Wylen and songwriter Andrea Rosario (credits include LAUV, Natalie Jane), the single embraces emotional vulnerability without leaning into self-pity.
The themes in “Burning Bridges” continue the narrative arc from EMMMA’s debut EP Secondary Character, which dealt with identity, strength, and self-worth. Now, her newer material, including recent singles “Cut The Breaks” and “Wednesday’s Child,” examines emotional reckoning through a more mature, reflective lens.
Originally from Westport, Connecticut, EMMMA has made inroads in the UK alt-pop scene, recently touring as the opening act for JC Stewart. With “Burning Bridges,” she offers a track that’s as cathartic as it is catchy—proving again her gift for turning personal growth into compelling pop music.
