Sam Garrett unveils One Family, a new full-length album set to arrive this summer. This latest work marks Garrett’s most expansive musical statement yet —a powerful blend of folk, mantra, and reggae wrapped in a timeless call for unity and social healing.
Inspired by icons of the 1960s such as Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and The Beatles, One Family serves as Garrett’s homage to an era defined by its revolutionary energy and youthful optimism. “This album is my ode to the freedom movements of the 60s and the music expressed by the youth of that time, ” shares Garrett.
The project spans emotional and thematic depths. From the bright, hopeful tones of “Be Free” and the title track “One Family” to the meditative reflections of “Hey Amma” featuring Jamaican artist Mortimer, Garrett explores the light and the shadows of our shared human experience. On “Hey Amma, ” he confronts colonial legacy, singing: “I am the coloniser’s son, the one who won’t obey, the dream that you once had has turned into decay.”
“Freedom is our nature and this album is a reflection of that, ” Garrett explains. Balancing heartfelt introspection with outward-facing calls to action, One Family arrives as a gentle yet unwavering reminder of the beauty and interconnectedness of life, offering both a message and a melody to those seeking peace amid chaos.
