mgk releases “cliché,” his latest upbeat single with a nostalgic music video and MTV premiere.
mgk is back with his latest single “cliché,” an energetic and emotionally layered anthem that blends early 2000s alt-rock nostalgia with modern pop grit. Released alongside a cinematic visual directed by Sam Cahill, the track marks the beginning of a new chapter for the genre-defying artist.
The track made its broadcast debut on MTV Live, MTVU, and MTV Biggest Pop, and also lit up the Paramount Times Square billboards, giving fans an early taste of what’s to come from mgk’s next album — teased earlier this week via pre-save link on his website.
Produced and written with mgk’s trusted collaborators SlimXX, BazeXX, and Nick Long, “cliché” captures the restless joy and bittersweet energy of summer heartbreak. The music video, choreographed by Sean Bankhead (Usher, Tate McRae), leans into ‘90s and Y2K aesthetics, showing mgk in a more carefree, liberated space.
In the lead-up to the release, mgk shared stripped-down covers of “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls, “Empty Out Your Pockets” by Juice WRLD, and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” by Green Day, showcasing a more introspective tone and musical range.
As excitement builds, mgk is also set to headline the 30th Anniversary Vans Warped Tour, with performances in Washington, DC, and Orlando, FL.
His past two albums — Tickets to My Downfall and mainstream sellout — both debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with hits like “bloody valentine” and “my ex’s best friend” going No. 1 at Alternative Radio.
