Healy drops first song in over two years—“RUNNING LAPS,” a soulful indie-pop look at inner conflict.
Healy, the Memphis-born singer, songwriter, and multi-genre artist, returns with “RUNNING LAPS,” marking his first release in over two years. A thoughtful meditation on the cycles of self-sabotage and personal growth, the single blends Healy’s signature indie-pop sound with reflective lyricism.
“Am I departing from my old self and habits, or have I been just self-sabotaging and giving up when the going gets tough?” Healy says of the track’s meaning. “The imagery that came to mind was that iconic photo of Muhammad Ali looking over Sonny Liston — my higher self being down on the ground.”
With over 200 million catalog streams, collaborations with Cautious Clay, and a SZA stamp of approval, Healy’s new track represents the next stage in a career built on honesty and genre-blending creativity.
Healy’s musical roots trace back to Memphis, where gospel, soul, and hip-hop shaped his early years. While studying physical therapy in college, he began working on music—eventually self-releasing his debut Subluxe in 2017. After signing with RCA Records, he released Tungsten in 2021, followed by the Look at God EP in 2023.
“RUNNING LAPS” is a welcome return that reaffirms Healy’s place as one of music’s most emotionally in-tune and versatile voices. With more music on the way, he’s once again on the move—this time with renewed clarity.
