“Bread (butter version)” sees SOFI TUKKER and Seu Jorge unite for a cross-cultural, jazz-driven duet.
GRAMMY-nominated duo SOFI TUKKER release “Bread (butter version),” the first single from their upcoming album butter, due May 16. The track features Brazilian legend Seu Jorge and reinterprets the title song from their 2024 album BREAD.
Marking a stylistic turn, butter is a tribute to Brazilian music, with SOFI TUKKER diving into MPB, samba, bossa nova, bolero, and more. Recorded in Brazil and backed by all-organic instrumentation, the album explores the duo’s alter ego through warmer, breezier textures.
“Bread (butter version)” is a soulful duet with Seu Jorge, with Sophie Hawley-Weld singing in Portuguese and Seu Jorge in English—a spontaneous role reversal that gives the song its unique charm. “He looked at me with such sincerity and thanked me for the opportunity,” says Sophie. “He has one of those once-in-a-generation voices.”
The album was crafted alongside world-class Brazilian musicians and expands the duo’s sonic vocabulary, diverging from their typical dancefloor energy in favor of jazz and acoustic rhythm.
In 2025, SOFI TUKKER will appear at major events including BottleRock, World Pride, and the Newport Jazz Festival. Their global appeal continues to grow following collaborations with Kygo and J Balvin, fashion partnerships, and nonprofit campaigns supporting environmental and social causes.
