C-Pop Sensation Tia Lee delivers new powerful single ‘Goodbye Princess’
As the first ever Chinese song produced by Grammy-Award Winning producer, Swizz Beatz[Madonna, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z], ‘Goodbye Princess’ is about reinvention. In addition, the ‘Goodbye Princess’ music video has been produced by Actual Objects, who create films and stills combining virtual characters and scenes that are favored by fashion brands and celebrities such as Travis Scott, Trippie Redd, Madison Beer, Nike, The North Face and more.
The song is about not breaking with the past, but rather viewing memories in a new light, and using the past as foundation to build the future on. The imagery within the music video illustrates Tia Lee’s struggle and eventual breakthrough to where she is today. Tia Lee chose to team up with the legendary Swizz Beatz due to his signature sound: brash instrumentals and futuristic beats layered with what’s become his ‘sound mark’: clever, catchy sound-over’s on a track.
Prior to this release, Tia mysteriously wiped her Instagram feed clean, signaling to her fans that something was coming. Once her Instagram was reactivated, it officially marked the launch of ‘Goodbye Princess’: an unprecedented ingenious MV pre-release six-part production that brings together animation, music and fashion videography based on Tia’s personal journey and her struggles within the entertainment industry.
The series was created to show the world Tia’s refreshed persona, her determination to break out of the castle, shake off the labels that have been put on her, stay free from the negativity of gossip and rumor mills, and set an example as she takes control of her own destiny while returning to the world of C-pop. The pre-release series has attracted over 100 million views within a month.
Each 1-minute animation episode takes inspiration from iconic fairytale princesses with 6 episodes in total. Complementing the animation episodes is a six-part fashion videography series combining motion images and photography of Tia curated by award-winning Creative Director, Tony C. Miller. Sunny Tang was brought onto this project, an award-winning animation director with 20+ years of experience whose credit list includes The Great Detective Sherlock Holmes – The Greatest Jail-Breaker, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kung Fu Hustle, The Promise, Gatchman and Astro Boy.
The concept behind the animated series of ‘Goodbye Princess’ reflects the childhood dream of becoming a princess, being loved and living happily ever after. However, it also questions whether the magnificent castles, beautiful clothes and charming prince really make you happy. Is the princess image just a stereotype of what a happy woman should look like?
