Tanis delivers emotional honesty and visual poetry in new single “Kid” – a moving ode to childhood memories.
Global artist Tanis shares her newest release, “Kid,” a reflective pop track exploring the emotional tug-of-war between adulthood and the innocence of youth. Known for her multicultural upbringing and boundary-blending music, Tanis brings rich emotional depth to this intimate new offering.
Born across three continents and fluent in four languages, Tanis embodies global perspective. In “Kid,” she leans into vulnerability, expressing the longing for a simpler time, free of judgment and responsibility. Her lyrics carry this ache vividly: “It used to be cute when I was foolish, but no one forgives my actions now.”
The accompanying music video, directed by renowned photographer Paul Cruz, reflects the song’s themes through symbolism and simplicity. What begins with Tanis singing in front of a static backdrop soon transforms—she rips it down, revealing a room filled with oversized teddy bears and balloons. Though accidental in origin, the large teddy bears—originally planned to be smaller—add emotional punch, reinforcing the dreamlike return to childhood.
Alongside the video, a visualizer directed by Irish-born filmmaker Roisino offers a complementary lens. Known for her dynamic visual storytelling, Roisino captures the energy and sentiment of the track with vivid clarity.
“Kid” stands as a cinematic and lyrical reflection on identity, maturity, and emotional resilience. Tanis invites listeners into a space of quiet contemplation, asking them to hold onto their younger selves—and to keep dreaming.
