R2ViolinCello, the dynamic husband and wife duo of violinist Rhys Watkins and cellist Rowena Calvert, have announced the upcoming release of their new EP, ‘Mission Impossible’. Arriving on December 5, 2025, the project will be celebrated with a special launch concert at the Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok on December 7, marking an important milestone in the duo’s evolving artistic journey.
Recognized for their distinctive ability to merge virtuosic classical performance with cinematic sound design, R2ViolinCello take on some of film music’s most iconic scores in this bold new release. ‘Mission Impossible’ condenses epic orchestral works into the rare and intimate format of violin and cello, enhanced by expansive electronic sound architecture that restores the grandeur of the originals while spotlighting the expressive range of just two instruments.
The EP features four legendary scores:
● Mission Impossible
● Duel of the Fates
● Imperial March
● Schindler’s List
The origins of the project trace back to the COVID lockdowns, when the duo commissioned composer and arranger Simon Parkin to transform large scale Hollywood compositions into technically dazzling duets. The challenge opened unexpected creative doors, redefining what the violin and cello pairing could achieve. The vision expanded further with the involvement of sound designer Albin Dominic from India, who created powerful electronic backdrops that bring orchestral scale to the duo’s performances.
“This project revealed a completely new identity for us,” says Rowena. “It proved that two instruments, when supported by bold sound architecture, can compete with the power of a full orchestra.”
With ‘Mission Impossible’, R2ViolinCello present a forward thinking chapter that bridges the world’s biggest stages and Bangkok’s rising classical scene, offering audiences a fresh and immersive crossover experience
