Out Now Magazine Spotlight series featuring the Israeli rising star St.Levi for an exclusive interview
St. Levi or Eden Shwartz is an Israeli artist, singer, songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist.
A few years later at the age of 15, he started producing and built his own studio. In 2020 St. Levi released his highly anticipated EP “hey, can you ease my pain?” including the hits All Over Again and Play No Games
Where are you from?
Tel Aviv, Israel!
When did you start making music?
I started making music basically when I was 9, I learned to play the guitar back then and I immediately started writing songs, I took it professionally when I got 15, and I’m almost 22 now.
How do you describe your music?
Great question, I would describe it as “authentic” in one word. Lyrics wise, I think that honesty and authenticity are the most important tools, production wise, I can go in many directions and I’m not closing myself into a certain type of production so it really depends on what the song needs.
Favorite moment from your career?
Kinda hard to choose the very favorite one, but I think I’ll go with the first full length performance I had, I was 17 and it was in a great venue in Tel Aviv, I was so fulfilled and excited to be able perform my own music for an hour and a half for the first time in my life.
Who is your biggest musical inspiration?
Oh wow! Truly so many, it goes from Nirvana, to John Mayer, to Kanye, to Joe Bonamossa and so many more, I’m keeping myself surrounded by music all of the time, it gets me inspired and teaches me so much about this magical thing.
What is your producing software?
Cubase, I love it even though most of the people hate it.
What other things do you do besides making music?
I love CrossFit, it gets me super inspired and takes out a lot of the negative energy that needs to be taken out, also, I read a lot of books so you’ll always catch me with a book, meditations and journaling are a big part of my life as well.
What is your favorite track of all time?
Damn, if it’s an all time thing, I’ll go with “Fly Me to the Moon” by Sinatra, this song is just perfect.
What is your best-producing tip?
My best tip for production is paying attention to the small details, listen to the song and develop your ears to understand what the song needs and also learn to play instruments, this is super important!
Why did you start making music?
It was never something I “decided” to do, it was so natural and I always felt like I have to do this, so the cliche that music is something that chooses you is pretty accurate.
What are your goals for the future?
I have lots of goals and I’m doing my best to focus on one or a bit more at a time, but I have a huge album that I’m about to finish and I can’t wait to share it with the world at the right time, besides the career, my goals in my personal life are to be more and more connected to my inner self, make time for the things that bring me joy and throw away bad habits.
What advice can you give for young music producers/DJs?
I will start the answer with a nice quote that goes like “Winners never quit and quitters never win” so never fucking stop! There is always enough space for everyone. Just keep going, learn a new thing every day, you never know everything, always see yourself as a student, invest in yourself, be nice to people and most importantly, enjoy the process!
Please write a message to your fans.
I’m so thankful to reach so many people in the past year. I’m so happy to receive the messages and the love, I always see them and reply, this truly brings me so much joy, I can’t wait to see you in live shows! All love!
