Exclusive Spotlight Interview With Rising Pop Singer Riley Clemmons
A 20-year-old pop singer/songwriter from Nashville Riley Clemmons was nominated for “New Artist of the Year” at the 2019 Dove Awards and named a featured performer. She also hosted the award shows’ official pre-telecast. Out Now Catch with her on an exclusive interview about her goals, moments, and music.
Where are you from?
Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee!
Tell us about your single ‘Over And Over’, how was the work on it, who were the people who contributed to the single, and what is the story behind it?
I wrote this song with some of my favorite co-writers and friends, Ethan Hulse, Colby Wedgeworth, and Jordan Sapp. I walked into the room wanting to write a song with the title “Over and Over” that truly captured the essence of gratitude found in grace, love, and forgiveness. At this point in my life, I’m continually enamored and blown away by how they continue to show up when I least expect. This song immediately felt special… even in the room on the day it was written.
After Your breakthrough into the music industry, do you remember the moment you realized you were a rising star in the field?
A Dove Award nomination for “Best New Artist” was definitely one of those moments. Words don’t really touch performing on an award show I grew up watching every year.
From all the singles you’ve released so far, which one still makes you excited every time?
“Fighting For Me” will always hold a special spot in my heart. That song was the first time I remember audiences singing along to one of my songs. It always makes me excited.
Who is the next artist you would like to collaborate with?
The list is endless!! I could list fifty names, at least. It definitely depends on the project, but I’m most definitely open to collaboration.
Favorite moment from your career?
Live shows … getting to meet the people listening to the music is surreal. I love hearing their stories.
Who were the people who influenced you the most from whom you were inspired?
Aretha Franklin, Cece Winans, Alicia Keys, Elton John, Amy Winehouse, Dolly, Billy Joel, my family.
What other things do you do besides making music?
I love exercising, cooking, painting, reading, sleeping, traveling, watching home renovation shows… The list goes on!
What excites you most about being a singer and performing around the world?
Getting to share lyrics and melodies that came from such an intimate and personal space, and watching them connect with individuals from all around the world is a feeling I can’t put words to. More of that. I can’t wait.
What are your goals for the future?
I hope to keep writing honest music and telling stories through songs. That most definitely includes traveling the world to play it.
Please write a message to your fans.
You are loved. You are not alone. You are smart and capable. One day at a time… One step at a time is stronger than you know.
