Out Now Magazine Spotlight series featuring rising music star Danjul for an exclusive interview
Tell us about you:
Um, I’m from a distance world called “Devon Juicy lips”. Hahaha! Jk, Names Danjul, I’m the middle child of 3 and I was born in Inglewood CA, and raised in Covina CA. I’m a singer/songwriter that loves to Dance and create dope pop songs that are about my crazy life.
Where are you from?
Inglewood, CA
When did you start making music?
I started making music when I was in my mom’s stomach. I had a whole studio setup in her stomach! I drove her nuts! Hahaha! I’m a nerd, I started making music in 2008. at first it was just to see if I could even do it, but once I realized I could I found a producer that would help me create a unique sound. So that’s when I met my first legit producer Matthew Nelson.
How do you describe your music?
At first, I would call is “fantasy pop” but that was corny haha! So, I’d say “pop” with a cinematic touch? But at the end of the day, it’s just MUSIC, right? I just want to create great pop songs.
Favorite moment from your career?
Wow, I have several actually…One, Talking with you guys! I’m being serious, this is such an honor! I never thought I’d be on covers of magazines and doing interviews. This is wild! Another moment would be when I heard my song “Drama” on the radio in Florida! That was very cool!
Who is your biggest musical inspiration?
Male, Michael Jackson / Female, Brandy
What is your producing software?
“LOGIC”, But I’m not a producer no cap! But I work with two up & coming producers who literally do it all! Nathan Bankston from North Hollywood CA! He has a studio called “Milfs Kitchen” That I recorded my single “Drama” out of. Very talented guy, and I also work with another producer/mixer name Conner Weinstein in Aurora Hills CA His studio is called 137 Productions! look them up on IG @father_bankston & @137productionsla. Check them out!
What other things do you do besides making music?
Music is my life! Creating is who I am….but i do like driving my brother insane haha! He’s my best friend. And I like playing pranks on my mom! I should record them and put them on a YouTube channel haha I’d become famous right? Shes funny, and gets scared easily so it’s pretty hilarious.
What is your favorite track of all time?
There’s a song by Brandy called “True” Off her human album. It’s something about that song that just …..I don’t know, takes my breathe away. She’s truly one of our greatest voices of all time. God really took time when crafting her voice. I love her so much…if only she knew how much she’s impacted my life. That’s one of my all-time favorites though! I have more but that’s at the top.
Why did you start making music?
Music is in my blood; I don’t have your typical artist story but It honestly keeps me sane. If that makes sense….It’s the only thing is this world that truly makes me happy.
What are your goals for the future?
I really want to get a legit manager and start traveling doing shows and continue to create great timeless pop records that make people feel good. Buy my mom her dream home and make my grandma proud……I didn’t want to mention this, but she recently passed away January 11th 2022…..It has not been easy. Literally, the minute she passed my career started….I’ve been on 2 magazines covers and my song Drama has been played all over and so much is happening but yet, I’m so sad and I really miss her……I’m trying not to cry right now…sorry. Next question……
What advice can you give for young music producers/DJs?
NEVER GIVE UP! I have a hard time myself…..
