Out Now Magazine Spotlight series featuring Dillon Antony for an exclusive interview
Where are you from?
I’m from Markham, Ontario, Canada.
When did you start making music?
It began when I first started writing my own songs at 18 during my days at school. That was the foundational step towards making my own music and releasing my debut single in 2018.
How do you describe your music?
Soothing, catchy and smooth. Those are three words that describe my music.
Favorite moment from your career?
One of my music videos got played at A.R Rahman’s concert during his tour in Chennai, India where he also premiered it to thousands of his fans.
Who is your biggest musical inspiration?
I draw inspiration from a lot of artists that I grew up with and currently listen to. My biggest musical inspiration is Bruno Mars. I am such a huge fan of his music and his entire artistry. The way he passionately sings and performs with his band, his work ethic, plays so many different instruments, can dance so well and write timeless songs. He inspired me to pursue a career in music and gave me the confidence to sing, create my own music and to try new things out of my comfort zone.
What is your producing software?
I use Logic Pro X to create my songs.
What other things do you do besides making music?
Music pretty much is my life. However, once I started my music career, I began developing new interests outside of it. I started learning how to dance and have been taking different dance classes. I’m passionate about fitness and training to be in the best shape I can be. I’m also big on fashion. I never realized that dance, fitness and fashion can go hand in hand with music.
What is your favorite track of all time?
My favourite track of all time has to be ‘All Of Me’ by John Legend. That one song resonates with me so much hearing all the words he sings. I really enjoy singing this song all the time. I can see myself singing this song when I’m 60
What is your best-producing tip?
My best producing tip is don’t be afraid of experimenting with new sounds or sounds you wouldn’t think go well together. You’d be surprised how well two opposite genres can sound amazing when blended together correctly.
Why did you start making music?
Growing up as an identical twin, I have always been shy around others. People used to only see me as a twin and wouldn’t get to know me for who I truly am. Once I’ve started singing, it pushed me out of my comfort zone and has given me the confidence to overcome my shyness and be more outgoing and the man that I am today. Music has helped me discover my true identity. I have gotten to meet so many incredible people. musicians, producers, artists and make ever lasting friendships. It wouldn’t have been possible if I didn’t start making music.
What are your goals for the future?
My current goal for the future is to complete and release my first ever EP. I’ve been hard at work creating my music with my amazing team and giving my all with these new songs. I was able to discover my sound through my previous releases. My new single “Not About You” is my lead single off of my new EP. It gives my fans a taste of what to expect when they get to have my EP. I’ll hopefully have it completed and ready to release sometime in 2022.
What advice can you give for young music producers/DJs?
My advice for any young musicians, producers and DJ’s is to never give up on yourself and continue to achieve your dreams. As cheesy as it sounds, it’s the same advice that continues to motivate me to this day. With the many accomplishments you will achieve in your journey, you’re going to hear a lot of negative opinions and hear the word “NO” a lot. Don’t be discouraged by it. Continue to work hard. You will find your place when you’re understood and appreciated. Making music is the hardest work and it’s worth it once you’re surrounded by people who understand you as an artist and want to support you and your music.
Please write a message to your fans.
Thank you so much to all of my fans for riding with me still and supporting my music. I’m so thrilled you are all enjoying Not About You. To my new fans, I hope you enjoy what you heard and I’m ecstatic to have you a part of my fanbase “family”. Now that the cat’s out of the bag about my EP, y’all aren’t ready for what you’re going to hear soon.
