Watch Now: Multi-platinum singer-songwriter Sorana release new video for “Happy Birthday Sadness”
Produced by Yonatan “Johnny” Goldstein (Black Eyed Peas, Flo Rida) and Nicki Adamsson (Charli XCX, Tove Lo), and co-written by Sorana with JHart (Troye Sivan, Why Don’t We), Goldstein, and Adamsson, the infectious pop track is accompanied by an official music video now streaming at YouTube.
Sorana says: “Birthday songs are always happy but I’ve always felt kinda melancholic on my birthday especially at my party when my friends bring out the cake and say ‘make a wish’ because in that moment I think of everything that is missing. I moved from country to country so many times that no matter what, I always end up missing someone on my birthday. Songwriting is my therapy and having recently celebrated, I wanted to write a dramatic birthday song to express a feeling I’m sure a lot of people have felt,” “It’s not always popping champagne, eating cake and laughing with your friends. Sometimes you’re alone or surrounded by the wrong people, away from your family, or lover or maybe you just want to cry at midnight. ‘Happy Birthday Sadness’ is a song for anyone who has ever felt the loneliest on what’s supposed to be our happiest day.”
Sorana kicked off 2022 with “redruM,” her explosive collaboration with superstar DJ/producer David Guetta, now boasting over 25.8M global audio streams. Soon after, Sorana followed “redruM” with the release of her debut solo single, “Karaoke“ which POPDUST called “stunning,” praising the song as an “epic heartbreaker ready for arenas.”
“Happy Birthday Sadness” also follows Sorana’s energetic and innovative summer anthem, “Wild Girls,” which features an interpolation of the legendary composer Ennio Morricone’s “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” theme, directly approved by the Morricone family, marking the first time the historic composition has been used in a major pop song.
The wildly gifted, LA-based songstress has swiftly gone from penning multi-platinum hits including the chart-topping, RIAA platinum-certified “Takeaway (Feat. Lennon Stella)” for The Chainsmokers & Illenium, and the BRIT Award-nominated, platinum-certified, “Heartbreak Anthem” for Galantis, David Guetta, & Little Mix, which hit #3 in the UK, to co-writing “Beg For You” for Charli XCX & Rina Sawayama, which reached #1 on UK Airplay charts, and both co-writing and lending her voice to Alan Walker’s “Lost Control (Feat. Sorana),” which has generated over 120M worldwide streams and counting. Now with a string of remarkable solo releases and more unique and powerful pop music on the horizon, Sorana continues to cement her status as a major new artist and unstoppable pop force to be reckoned with.
