Iranian-Dutch singer, songwriter, record producer, visual artist and director Sevdaliza unveils new brilliant EP “Raving Dahlia”
Sevdaliza’s new EP “Raving Dahlia”, signifies the arrival of a new era for Sevdaliza. Mirroring her own personal evolution, the body of work showcases Sevdaliza expanding the parameters of her critically acclaimed signature electronic sound into new sonic realms.
This project holds the remnants of Sevdaliza’s own frustrations with the unrealistic expectations put on a female artist and women in society overall. Pivotal on many levels, Raving Dahlia puts the power in the hands of women, serving as an instrument to provide women with their freedom of choice and ability to redefine “perfection” to ultimately achieve true liberation.
In order to bring her art to life, Sevdaliza built a physical robot, a Femmenoid, that represents the perfect artist. It serves as a vehicle to convey the harsh truth about navigating in the music industry as a woman who does not conform to an industry standard – sonically, physically and mentally.
She says: “To understand, I recreated a perfect self. To understand is to forget about perfection. I know nothing more simultaneously false and telling than the statement by Leonardo da Vinci that we cannot love or hate something until we’ve understood it.“
The focus of her work has ranged from combating discrimination against women in the music industry, spotlighting the sociopolitical crisis between Iran and the United States, protesting Trump’s immigration ban and beyond.
Her art not only continues to break new ground but it also serves as a source of healing, empowerment, and a community that surpasses geographic parameters.
