Rising LA artist Rilan is back with his brand new single “Sad” following his latest single “Bitter“
The track touches on the difficulty of actively pursuing joy when oftentimes it can be much easier to stay sad. “Sad” is Rilan’s second release of 2021, following “Bitter” in February.
Rilan shares, “It’s comfortable to stay in a rut,” Rilan explains. “When you get your hopes up and get let down time and time again, you tend to greet sadness as an old friend and see happiness as the unattainably perfect, popular kid in school who you hate but are secretly jealous of. I think now more than ever people can relate to the comfort of being sad. After all, we’re all in this together whether we like it or not, so we might as well make the best of it, or at the very least make fun of it. I also love creating music that’s sonically lighthearted but lyrically dark. Pop dichotomy is my thing.”
Rilan is a combination of pop, glam rock, and musical theatre. He’s David Bowie meets Mr. Cellophane. He’s the illegitimate love child of Ziggy Stardust and Liza Minnelli. Or was it Lady Gaga and Fred Astaire? Who knows? Certainly not his birth parents. They were obviously drunk at the time. Whimsical, witty, and weird, Rilan is your typical boy-next-door if you lived next to a typical abandoned Vaudevillian theatre that may or may not be haunted. He’s part sad clown, part Vaudeville mime, and part rockstar.
He was a regular on Glee’s 6th season as a Warbler, designed and showcased a line of denim and vegan leather jackets at NYFW 2017, worked with legendary choreographers like Richy Jackson (Lady Gaga), and has collaborated with world-renowned producer Dallas Austin (TLC, Madonna, P!nk, Gwen Stefani). He has been independently amassed over a million streams on Spotify and peaked at #15 on the Billboard Dance Club Chart with his 2019 single “Love or Drugs.”
Rilan plans to release new music & content each month throughout 2021, including an official music video for “Sad” in the coming weeks. For more information on Rilan, be sure to follow him at the links below.
