20-year-old singer and songwriter Niko Rubio Kicks Off With Her Brand New EP “Wish you were here“
She says: “Hi mermaids. Making this EP has been one of the best experiences of my life. I started working on it in March of 2020 and bitch, let me tell you – I was depressed. I had no idea what I was going to do with my music and I struggled to figure out what I wanted to say. Out of my frustration, I drove. I drove every day, from my grandma’s house to the beach which took about 30 minutes, every chance I could. I would drive the coast and sit at the beach and write about whatever I could: my family, my relationships, my culture, my ancestors. I would jump in the ocean and cry. I am so grateful I could even do that much, grateful for my team of amazing and kind people who work every day to get these songs to as many people as possible, and grateful for my producers and cowriters who spend hours crafting these songs with me for you. Inspired by my coast (the South Bay of Los Angeles), I give you my debut EP, ‘Wish You Were Here.’”
Her brand new EP “Wish You Were Here” follows an exciting summer for Niko, who has spent the previous months teasing her breezy new EP with the singles “Go With You,”“Bed” and “You Could Be The One.” Billboard praised the latter of the three as a, “captivating showcase for the newcomer,” adding that, “the kicky pop-rock track allows Rubio’s tone to sink down low and soar skyward.” PAPER also described Niko’s music as “…infused with waves of indie-rock and guitar riffs…in the most Californian style, of course.
Latina Magazine hailed Niko’s music as, “the perfect soundtrack for riding in a seafoam-green convertible, top down, along the familiar Pacific Coast Highway,” while also noting that, “Rubio’s crisp vocals are like the breath of fresh air we all need after the past year-and-a-half…”
Niko will also perform at a handful of upcoming music festivals this fall, including Summerfest Milwaukee next month; additional appearances to be announced.
