Lily Papas shares her 4th stunning new single ‘Freak‘ after her announce of supporting Vera Blue across two nights at Fortitude Music Hall
While her singles ‘Encore’, ‘Jackson’ and ‘Wild’ set the tone for Lily Papas’ discography, the new single ‘Freak’ cements Lily as more than just one to watch as she expands her sonic territory in 2021.
With melancholy at its heart, beautiful scenes of pools of water, luxurious decor and blossoming nature juxtapose a confronting visual storytelling experience. Adding layers of extra emotion to the song, a tumultuous relationship plays out in front of the viewers eyes, one that tackles the impulsiveness of human behaviour in the face of romance.
It’s a record about entering an intimate moment with another human being. Written in ode to a significant moment with her partner, ‘Freak’ is a personality fuelled edge unseen on her previous single. Sonically the strong percussion pulls you in. Keeping you engaged is Lily’s always brilliant vocal delivery. As her harmonies grow so does the tension in the track, released only in its final third with brilliant strings and gorgeous chords.
Lily shares about the new single “Freak is the aftermath of giving yourself over to the dark side for the night. It’s about going home with a rock star and having a romance in the summer. This for me was a real – life thing (however I have taken this to the extreme). My boyfriend had just played a massive support act show for a hip – hop artist and I was in the crowd watching him. I was mesmerised“.
Her debut track ‘Wild’ achieved close to half a million streams on Spotify and led to performances at the AO LIVE Stage at the Australian Open and Channel 9’s The Today Show.
