Lights drops two distinct singles from A6, offering fans nostalgic pop and dark wave textures.
Electro-pop favorite Lights continues building anticipation for her upcoming album A6 with the release of two new singles: “WHITE PAPER PALM TREES” and “SURFACE TENSION.” Both tracks are available now and highlight the duality that defines the album, which arrives May 2.
Each song showcases a different mood and musical direction. “‘WHITE PAPER PALM TREES’ brings some of my early-day influences to the forefront,” says Lights, nodding to her nostalgic roots. Meanwhile, “SURFACE TENSION” dives into darker territory, incorporating dark wave textures, new wave-inspired instrumentation, and a string of German lyrics—an homage to the project’s European influence.
“I couldn’t decide which song to release because I feel like both appeal to such different sides of the fan base,” she explains. “So I had the idea to release both simultaneously and let the fans decide where they stand.”
Lights also directed and edited the accompanying videos, which were uniquely designed to be played side by side. Fans can watch them interact visually and sonically, choosing which track takes the spotlight depending on which volume is turned up.
The singles follow the previously released tracks “ALIVE AGAIN” and “DAMAGE,” each revealing a new layer of A6. Vinyl and CD pre-orders are now open, including a signed edition and exclusive orange crush colored vinyl.
On April 15, ahead of her North American tour, Lights will host a special win-to-get-in event in Los Angeles, Lights at Slipper Clutch (A)Live Again – an A6 Night. Entry is available exclusively through her TikTok.
