Norway’s Rising Pop Trio KEiiNO Reveals Their Brand New Winter Anthem ‘A Winter’s Night‘
The new single ‘A Winter’s Night’ sees Norway’s pop powerhouse singing about missing a loved one. The soundscape is airy, with acoustic instruments and a string quartet forming a comfortable carpet under Alexandra Rotan’s naked voice.
The lyrics are about longing, and describes going into a winter’s night alone. It’s a stark contrast to the band’s usual perked-up pop sound, and the perfect soundtrack to our changing seasons and unsettled times.
KEiiNO says: “We like to change our personal playlists when it starts to get cold, the rain whips on the window and the wind howls outside the door. So we wanted to make a song that could give the listener a bit of the same effect as a big, soft blanket. At the same time, we wanted to address a theme that is important as we approach Christmas, a time that can evoke memories that make loneliness extra painful.“
For one of KEiiNO’s singers, it got more serious, as Tom Hugo was diagnosed with depression. Tom went into therapy and is now doing fine, but there are many who have struggled more severely, and who are still struggling.
A new lockdown can be difficult to deal with as the nights are getting longer, and unfortunately, there are long waiting lists to get help through. Therefore, KEiiNO is donating half of the income from the song to a Mental Health Helpline, and Tom Hugo has written a feature story in the largest Norwegian newspaper calling for more public funding of mental health issues.
The new single ‘A Winter’s Night’ is written by KEiiNO, Alexander Olsson and Stein Roger Sordal. Produced by Tom Hugo, recorded in Cederberg Studios with a group of talented Norwegian musicians and a string quartet from Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra.
Aleksander Waaktaar has written the string arrangement. Mix and master by Christer Andre Cederberg. The cover is painted by the Kristiansand-based street artist Arne Vilhelm Tellefsen.
