Bristol-based British-Polish composer Joe Galuszka has unveiled a poignant new single titled “Requiem for Mum,” which serves as the emotional centerpiece of his upcoming debut EP, “Fractures.” This deeply personal composition is dedicated to the memory of Galuszka’s late mother, embodying themes of love, loss, and resilience.
Originally crafted during his mother’s funeral, “Requiem for Mum” has since transcended its initial solemnity. The track features The Bristol Ensemble, an esteemed orchestra known for their collaborations with high-profile entities including the BBC and Aardman Animations. Their involvement lends a rich sensitivity to the piece, blending the intimate qualities of chamber music with the sweeping emotional gravitas characteristic of orchestral sounds.
The single opens with delicate textures that evoke the stillness surrounding grief. As it unfolds, intertwining motifs harmoniously develop, guiding listeners through a subtle yet powerful journey from sorrow to moments of reflection and light. This composition emphasizes memory as an enduring aspect of life rather than simply seeking closure. 
“Requiem for Mum” is professionally mixed by Alex Garden (Tarran) and expertly mastered by Nick Cooke, known for his work with artists such as Ramin Djawadi and Hans Zimmer, achieving a delicate balance between cinematic polish and raw emotional expression. Accompanying visuals, directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Giles Pitman, enhance the track’s atmospheric qualities.
Reflecting on the creation of this heartfelt piece, Galuszka shares, “This piece was written at one of the most difficult moments of my life. It began as something deeply personal, but I’ve come to realise it belongs to anyone who has lost someone they love. It’s about holding on to memory and finding strength in it.”
