Multi-platinum pop singer-songwriter GAYLE delivers new stunning single ‘god has a sense of humor’ via Atlantic Records/Arthouse Records
Produced by Ryan Linvall (Olivia Rodrigo, Hinds, Chloe Moriondo) and Noah Conrad (Kelsea Ballerini, Tai Verdes) and co-written by GAYLE with Linvall and Sarah Solovay (Shawn Mendes, Jason Derulo), the gripping song reveals the growing power of GAYLE’s songcraft – introspective, irreverent, and irresistible. The track is joined by an official lyric video streaming now via YouTube.
“god has a sense of humor” marks the latest single from GAYLE’s upcoming EP, a study of the human experience volume two, due everywhere on Friday, October 7. Pre-orders are available now. The EP was first heralded earlier in August with the tongue-in-cheek new single, “indieedgycool,” available now at all DSPs and streaming services. Produced by Jonny Shorr (Catie Turner, Jordy) with additional production by Pete Nappi (“abcdefu,” Illenium, Madison Beer), the track is joined by an official music video.
“indieedgycool” was greeted with immediate critical applause, with V Magazine raving, “Despite already earning a VMA nomination for Best New Artist, ‘indieedgycool’ is GAYLE’s best song to date, as she continues to nail down her indie, edgy, cool girl sound.” “‘indieedgycool’ showcases a whole new side of the multifaceted artist,” wrote Sweety High. “The cool rock track manages to be playful yet biting…”
The “avoiding college tour” gets underway October 8 at Oklahoma City, OK’s Beer City Music Hall and then travels through mid-November; support comes from Carlie Hanson and poutyface. Highlights include shows at Los Angeles, CA’s El Rey Theatre (October 19) and New York City’s historic Webster Hall (November 5).
The 18-year-old, Nashville-based artist – who recently headlined the BMI Stage at Chicago’s Lollapalooza – is currently lighting up an array of festival stages around the world, with upcoming performances set for the UK’s Leeds Festival (August 26) and Reading Festival (August 28), Dover, DE’s Firefly Music Festival (September 22), and Austin, TX’s Austin City Limits Music Festival (October 9 and 16).
“Few songs will end up being as defining for the past year in pop music as GAYLE’s breakout hit,” writes Billboard. Declared “the breakout song of 2022” by NYLON and a “gloriously caustic grunge-pop smash” by the Los Angeles Times, “abcdefu” proved a landmark debut for GAYLE, holding #1 on the Billboard Global 200 for nine consecutive weeks while peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 after spending three consecutive weeks atop Top 40 radio charts.
Hailed by Rolling Stone as “a summation of GAYLE’s experiences as a teen, filled with lessons learned and failed friendships,” the EP further includes such fan favorites as “ur just horny,” “luv starved,” “sleeping with my friends,” “kiddie pool,” and “e-z (feat. UPSAHL & Blu DeTiger),” all joined by creative visuals streaming now at GAYLE’s official YouTube channel.
In addition to receiving worldwide media attention spanning Rolling Stone, The New York Times, PEOPLE, Seventeen, ELLE, Teen Vogue, V and many more, GAYLE has made a number of high profile network TV appearances in recent months, including NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden.
