Chicago-based post-punk outfit Dendrons returns this fall with their third full-length album, ‘Indiana’, out November 17. Two years in the making, the project follows their 2022 release ‘5-3-8’, building on the band’s signature sound with a sharper, more immersive approach that oscillates between controlled chaos and haunting stillness.
Since forming on New Year’s Day in 2018, Dendrons have cultivated a style rooted in friction and fluidity, carving out a space where hypnotic grooves meet jagged melodies. ‘Indiana’ exemplifies this evolution, pushing their sonic language further through layered guitars, motorik rhythms, and ethereal atmospherics. The record maintains a balance between the urgent and the restrained, a tension that defines the listening experience.
The opening track, also titled ‘Indiana’, acts as a mission statement. A driving drumbeat grounds a swirl of guitar lines, which grow more intricate before dropping into a stripped section led by bass and gritty vocals.
From there, the track steadily builds, stitching together harmonic layering, textured guitar dissonance, and momentary flashes of sparkling sound. The song continuously shifts, processed vocals and shape-shifting arrangements keep it moving until it fades into a lone guitar pattern.

The album’s lead single, ‘Tuck Me Under’, stretches to six minutes and showcases the band’s commitment to slow-burning composition. Beginning in a near-whisper with soft guitar strokes and an understated vocal, the song eventually builds momentum, breaking into angular rhythms and expressive instrumentation. The accompanying video—shot by the band while driving through Indiana—mirrors the song’s sense of motion and emotional flux.
‘Out of My Halo’, the final track, closes the record on a sonically expansive note. Beginning with guitar chords and woodwind-like tones, it unfolds into a dense arrangement featuring layered vocals, fluctuating basslines, dueling guitars, and glockenspiel accents. Spoken phrases and ambient noise seep into the mix as the track reaches a climactic wall of sound, before cutting out into silence.
With ‘Indiana’, Dendrons once again prove their commitment to sonic exploration, crafting an album that thrives on contrast, surprise, and dynamic tension.
