Hot on heels with his latest single ‘Burned Out‘, Christy Shares New Track “Forever” Alongside Acoustic Performance Video
The new single ‘Forever’ is a song that wrestles with the passing of time. As beautiful cascading acoustic guitars dance around each other in counterpoint, Christy’s rustic vocals sail over the top, delivering his heartbreakingly delicate and vulnerable lyricism.
Christy shares, “Time is a strange concept,” says Christy, “It passes us by in a flash. Looking into an ever changing face is an everyday reminder of how much of it has actually gone by. You can’t promise forever, because forever in a moment right now is different from forever in a moment tomorrow. Moments and people are constantly changing.”
As melancholic as the message and the sound is in ‘Forever’, soft and intimate, close and gentle, that’s no accident: “I wrote this song in the middle of the night, around 3am maybe, after an intense chat with my friend about a relationship that recently ended. I didn’t want to wake anyone so when I sang it into my phone it sounded so soft and intimate, we put a lot of work in making the recording have the same feeling.”
Christy has had to get used to as of late, having gone from a totally new artist to reaching over one million monthly listeners in the space of a year.
Christy shares, “Music has something to do, something to focus on,” he explains, “it has felt like a new lease of life when there’s not much else going on – it’s kept me sane. But not being able to play live has been strange – that’s like breathing air to me and I miss the interaction with real people.”
Christy burst onto the scene with his debut EP ‘Homegrown’ in 2020; a suite of songs that mixed the vocal tenderness of Jeff Buckley or Chris Martin with the swirling musicality of Bon Iver. Though intensely personal, this is not simple, singer-songwriter territory: the effervescent O’Donnell counts Ray Charles, John Martyn and Chet Baker as among his biggest musical influences. Since its release, Christy has gone from zero to well over a million streams on Spotify alone, and earned the accolade of One To Watch from Amazon Music UK and Wonderland Magazine, as well as The Lowdown, and OUT NOW Magazines. To achieve such a feat is commendable at the best of times, but Christy managed to grasp success from the jaws of a pandemic stricken music industry, his songs striking a chord with audiences all around the world. “I didn’t know how the EP would be received, but to have that reception, I was really chuffed,” he says.
