Global talented rapper CHAII Is back with a brand new single ‘WOW (LOOK AT ME)‘
Following the acclaimed release of CHAII six-track debut Lightswitch visual EP in July, the genre-defying artist adds to a bold and diverse repertoire, with “WOW (Look At Me)” forming the next piece in her plan to take on the world stage as an energetic and rule-ducking voice to watch.
The new single has produced by Will Henderson and co-written by CHAII, Kings & Lawrence Arabia, the track opens to a rude hook from CHAII before glitch-heavy drums and computer-like bleeps carry a powerful anthem that repeats “look at me, look at me, look at me….WOW”.
An analog mash of crashing percussion and an electric guitar solo sees CHAII soon soar utop of it all, as she switches between a whisper and screams with confidence.
CHAII says about the new single: “In ‘WOW’ I talk about being in your own lane and taking risks. The ‘Look at me, wow’ hook is aimed towards social media culture and how some people would do anything to be seen.”
The release included the title track “Lightswitch” (produced by Frank Keys and mixed by Grammy-winner Jaycen Joshua [Rosalia, A$AP Rocky, Nicki Minaj]) as well as her debut trilogy of singles, “South”, Rolling Stone’s ‘Song of the Week’ “Digebasse” (featuring Nigerian-Australian rapper B Wise), and the heart-thumping, “Trouble”. Lightswitch EP scored support from tastemakers Rolling Stone, Acclaim and Pilerats upon release.
CHAII also self-directed and produced all videos on the visual EP, filming them ‘guerrilla style’ with her small crew of friends – Brooke Tyson (stylist), Abe Mora (DOP) and Frank Keys (behind the scenes).
CHAII’s music has already attracted the attention of Italian fashion brand FENDI, mixed martial arts organisation UFC and Charlize Theron’s new film The Old Guard, which is out now on Netflix featuring “Nobody Know” to underpin a high-energy fight scene. Earlier this year, CHAII was announced as the first-ever New Zealand Spotify RADAR artist, the streaming giant’s global emerging-artist platform which helped launch international stars including Lauv, King Princess, Jorja Smith, G-Eazy and Trippie Redd.
