Alt-pop Rising Star C’est Karma is back with a brand new single ‘Fist Fight‘ Featured along with Official Music Video
“Fist Fight” is a leap forward in both, but comes from the simple realization she has never been in a physical fight with anyone. Still true today, no punches have been thrown, but Karma has turned her pacifism into a commentary on conflict.
“This led me to reflect on the absurdity of violence and the relation between violence and pain,” she explains. “Fist Fight is about the conflicts everyone finds in themselves at some point in life, [it’s] about the fight between reason and instinct.”
Quoting performance artist Marina Abramović she references the piece Light/Dark, where she and her partner Ulay slapped each other in the face for 20 minutes, as being a key to her research when writing “Fist Fight”.
Abramović said “it is not the pain itself that matters […] we were looking for a key, a way to break through the body, to open something up, which is a desire that comes from another side of truth or reality.’”
Actively engaged in social and political causes, her first single of the year “Girls” was released in support of this year’s International Women’s Day, and back in her hometown Karma has been a key figure organising climate strikes. Now she’s using her growing platform to candidly blog about her experiences in the music industry with her latest entry looking at the underrepresentation of women in music.
Fluent in seven languages, her evolution continues as she begins to incorporate more electronic soundscapes into her work. Karma’s musical heroes Björk and IDLES have a track record of breaking the mold and throwing the imagined rule book out of the window, and this is something Karma’s planning to do with her own music.
Using brief snapshots of her life as a starting point, C’est Karma manufactures pop music around her observations giving even the most brief thoughts room to breathe and find their roots in today’s unprecedented world. “Fist Fight” is just a sample of her next period of artistic growth which is set to reach new levels of experimentation on her forthcoming EP due out later in the year.
The New Single “Fist Fight“ by C’est Karma is about conflicts that everyone finds in life.
