Aidan Alexander is breaking out in 2021, the rising star is sharing with us everything about his music career, goals, inspirations, and more.
Tell us about your latest single ‘the hills’, how was it working on it, and what is the story behind it?
It’s about the vanity and egotism of Hollywood and the often absurd obsession with superficiality and social climbing that happens here. Growing up in this town, you end up seeing and experiencing a lot of crazy stuff. I wanted to reflect on that in a fun, tongue-in-cheek way.
Who have been the people who influenced you the most and from whom you were inspired?
My mom and family. Musicians who aren’t afraid to be themselves and take chances. Poets who make sense of the world we live in. Meryl Streep.
What inspired your single ‘the end of the world’ and what do you hope to communicate with this single?
Isolation. I wrote this song during the early days of the pandemic and I was becoming really anxious while being alone in my apartment for long periods of time while the world outside seemed to be burning. I wanted to express how I was feeling. It was an intense time in my life, but it also allowed me to reflect and realize that some changes in my life needed to be made, too. I needed to stop pushing people away and embrace the love.
In light of the Coronavirus, do you think the music industry that has suffered tremendous damage by eliminating festivals, closed clubs, and of course, the loss of livelihood to musicians will change the face of the music industry as we know it?
Yes. It’s incredibly heartbreaking to see so many people not being able to work and do what they love, but with any hardship or obstacle in life, when things are down, they typically will come back up. When the live touring business does come back, it’ll be even better. I can’t wait; not only as a performer, but a fan.
Who is the next artist you would like to collaborate with?
Meryl Streep.
From all the singles you’ve released so far, which one still makes you excited every time you hear it?
I don’t want to be that guy, but every song I’ve released means something different to me. Depending on my mood or where I’m at in my life will impact this answer. Right now, it’s a new single no one has heard before (except my mom and my dog).
2021 is here, what are your goals for this year?
Release lots of music, tour around the world, make interesting visual content, be interviewed by “Out Now”.
What excites you most about being a singer and performing around the world?
The connection. Being so isolated during the pandemic has made me realize how social I am and how much I enjoyed connecting with people; what’s a deeper connection than a love for music?
You and many of the artists share their daily lives on social media, how important is exposure and connection to the audience for you?
It is and it isn’t. I go back and forth on this. I love how you can connect with fans and bring them into all aspects of your life, but there’s something interesting and cool about never knowing what David Bowie ate for breakfast on a Sunday morning in February.
You are an inspiration for lots of people around the world, including Singers, music producers, and music fans from around the world. What message would you like to send them during this time?
Be best. No, just kidding. I think just to stay optimistic and appreciate the little things in life. We shouldn’t take anything for granted and every moment in your life can be fulfilling if you choose it to be. When we are all together again and screaming the words to our favorite songs, it’ll be that much sweeter.
