TOKYO MACHINE teams up with Weird Genius and Lights on a brand new electro-pop track ‘Last Summer‘ via Monstercat
The new huge track ‘Last Summer‘ features a slice of electro-pop effortlessly combines each of their unique styles, from nostalgic 8-bit sounds to powerful earworm lyricism and internationally-inspired flavours.
TOKYO MACHINE shares about the new track, “EVER SINCE I SAW WEIRD GENIUS PLAY THEIR SET AT OCEAN MEETS MUSIC, I KNEW I WANT TO WORK WITH THEIR INSANE TALENT. LIGHTS VOCALS PUT THE CHERRY ON TOP FOR THIS RECORD, TO BE ABLE TO TEAM UP WITH BOTH OF THEM IS A DREAM AND I’M SO EXCITED FOR EVERYONE TO BE ABLE TO HEAR OUR COLLABORATION! HOPE EACH ONE OF YOU TAKES SOMETHING OUT OF THIS SONG A PIECE THAT RESONATES WITH YOU.”
Weird Genius are one of today’s most influential tastemakers. The talented trio has catapulted to the top of the charts, breaking records with their #1 single “LATHI”, reaching 1.5M monthly listeners in just a year, and crafting all-star collabs with notable names like Lil Baby, Yellow Claw, Rich Brian, among others. Their genre-blending brand of dance music is laden with Indonesian traditional elements, making their culture accessible to fans around the world.
Weird Genius weighs in, “We’ve been fans of TM’s works since his early releases like “Pixel” and he actually influenced some of our productions. His blend of heavy bass and catchy chiptune melodies made him really stand out amongst the waves of bass music producers. Needless to say, we were really stoked when he reached out to us, as we have had demos that would fit perfectly with his style. For this collab, we wanted to make something that perfectly expresses our signature sounds but is presented as a catchy pop tune. We had lots of fun making this track and we hope you guys enjoy it!”
TOKYO MACHINE’s eccentric personality and live performance energy has earned him global tours, a fiercely dedicated TOKI-CREW, and over 50M streams to date. Best known for combining video game influences with heavy basslines, he’s found support in a host of legendary acts like Tiësto, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Dillon Francis, and more. Returning to Monstercat in his fifth year on the label, he’s a fan-favourite producer and a force to be reckoned with.
Lights shares about ‘Last Summer’, “There was something sweet about the track, sweet enough that it could almost be sad. So I wrote something bittersweet because everything sweet needs some bitter. The past year has made a lot of us look back on better times, for better or for worse. Here’s one of mine.”
Canadian alt-pop songstress Lights makes her Monstercat debut with her infectious vocals on “Last Summer.” The cosplay-loving, certified, 4x JUNO Award winner has featured on chart-topping tracks with headline artists across the electronic and rock spaces including deadmau5, Bring Me The Horizon, Travis Barker, and recently, an EP with the beloved late i_o. Following some releases from the past few months like “Hearts on Fire”, “Batshit” with MYTH, and her special performance ‘DEAD END In Joshua Tree’, Lights is definitely one of our next artists for 2021.
